TAGE
i have tanked all low and mid level northrend instaes as dps Ret. i was set to tank HoL for a guildie and i bked out last minute to let a real tank in. three types of Ret tanking: 1. straight dps. heavy AP andrit allows you to pummel through anything. medire stam and lk of avoidae gear makes you relatively squishy.ant do heros. 2. straight tank. heavy avoidae and stam allow you to take hits. lk of real talents makerits hurt. a shield bomeslose to useless wo Defltion. threat is hard to hold even with RF up. you'll be missing a major stat no matter how you gear. a miss is fatal for the party.ant do heros. 3. hybrid. high avoidae and stam allow you to take hits. gearing for loads of agi and dodge make you hard to hit. you would equt a 2Her for threat. it would take 3 or 4 hits to down you. if you have a superb healer it is possible. the question would be: why? no matter how youut it, you will lose. either not enough mitigation or not enough threat. the gear required would suggest that you just spend the gold to resp.
If you're spced far enough into the prottion tree to get Holy Shield, you're not ret anymore...you're prottion. You have no business tanking in heros without Holy Shield.
Ah, sweet memories of tanking Hellfireitadel on my Retribution Paladin along with two other Paladins and two Death Knights before the "to the ground" thing. Good times.
One of the reasons spell power isn't nessary anymore is bause of Tohed by the Light. We don't need to gear for it bause this talent gives us all the spell power we need. The healing part isn't a big deal though. It's only there as a "just inase" talent. It's for solo play and rareiumstaes in whh you need to throw a heal or 2. Judgements of the Just is also a must grab imo. Losieould explain it better than Ian (and I believe already has, maybe more than oe), but slowing down an enemy's attk speed is a good thing: Thundelap anyone? It's not like you're stopping the mob from hitting you at all, just making them hit you less often, and it only affts your Judgement target. So in an AOE situation, one mob hitting less often isn't going to hurt mh, and single eounters (read bosseshard hitters) the fewer strikes on you will go a long way in keeping you alive. Remember the goal of the tank is to minimize the damage the group takes, and that iludes themselves. Blessing of Kings: if you're not going to put the full 5 points into it, don't put any into it. And I just don't see how youan justify the 5 points it takes as Prot given any of the talents you'll have to not take in order to take Kings. Leave it to the Rets (and PvP spced Holys). EDIT: for typo.
